No honourifics before President, PM, Ministers in govt documents

The government has barred the use of honourific terms such as “Mohamanno” and “Manonio”, before the official titles of the president, prime minister, ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers in government correspondence and official documents.

The Cabinet Division issued a circular on Wednesday (September 9), directing all ministries, divisions and their subordinate offices to implement the decision immediately.

Under the new directive, no honourific expression, including terms equivalent to “Mohamanno” or “Manonio”, may be used before the official designations of the president, prime minister, ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers in state business, official correspondence, documents and summaries.

The instruction took effect from Wednesday and applies across government offices.
