No link between Motijheel bomb incident, Metro incident: DMP

Dhaka Metropolitan Police has ruled out any connection between the recovery of a bomb under the Motijheel metro station a few days ago and the discovery of suspicious objects at the Mirpur-10 and Farmgate metro stations on Saturday.

Police said the objects found at the two stations contained no explosives, confirming that both incidents were isolated and unrelated to the earlier Motijheel bomb scare.

The Mirpur-10 station was temporarily closed for examination before services resumed.

The Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of DMP, in a press conference at the DMP Media Centre on Mintu Road on Saturday afternoon, said the suspicious bag found at Mirpur-10 station contained only betel leaf and jarda, while the sack at Farmgate station held garbage. Both were cleared by the bomb disposal unit.

CTTC Additional Commissioner Mohammad Shamsul Haque said, "The objects found were not explosive. This is an isolated incident. We have not found any link with the Motijheel incident so far." He added that investigations into both incidents are ongoing, and updates will be shared as they become available.

Earlier, on July 25, police recovered a bomb hidden inside an umbrella from under the Motijheel metro station. The bomb disposal unit later defused the improvised explosive device (IED), which went off with a loud explosion, injuring one person with splinters in his eye.

The incident had caused widespread public anxiety. In response, police have stepped up security at metro stations and public transport hubs across the city.

DMP said the cases are being investigated by multiple units, including the CTTC and Detective Branch, and efforts are underway to identify those responsible for leaving the objects.

Authorities also assured the public that there is no reason to panic and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects or activities to law enforcement agencies.
