No militant attack risk on Pahela Baishakh: DMP Commissioner

There is no threat of any militant attack surrounding Pahela Baishakh, said Md Sarwar, acting Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). He added that DMP has still made necessary preparations.

The DMP Commissioner made the remarks at a press conference on security for Pahela Baishakh held at Ramna Park in the capital around 3:30 pm on Sunday, April 12.

Md Sarwar said strict security measures have been taken across the capital for Pahela Baishakh, the festival of the Bengali people's heritage. Dhaka Metropolitan Police has declared a complete ban on carrying masks, bags, sharp objects and flammable materials, especially in and around Ramna Park. Additionally, the use of sky lanterns, fireworks and whistles that cause noise pollution have been banned.

He further stated that large crowds are expected to gather at various locations in the capital on this occasion. DMP has adopted an extensive security plan to ensure that people from all walks of life can enjoy the festival without any hindrance.
