No need for people to take to streets if we are in power: Jamaat chief
If Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power, the people will not need to take to the streets to realise their demands, party ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said.
Speaking as chief guest at the annual council session of the Forum of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh at Kakrail on Saturday (27 September), he also pledged to launch a “development express train” within five years, even if a “bullet train” could not be achieved.
“Youths will get jobs according to merit — something we have failed to ensure in the past half-century due to the failures of successive governments. Jamaat wants to rebuild this decayed country with the cooperation of the people,” he said.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman promised an education system that nurtures morality and humanity, not corruption and immorality. He highlighted corruption as the country’s main challenge and vowed to stop it, even if it causes discomfort to some. He also pledged to introduce a salary structure based on the importance and intensity of services.
“If the state is run on people’s trust and justice, no one will be deprived,” he said. “We must change our mentality. With the hands Allah has given us, we will not deny anyone’s rights or unjustly seize others’ wealth. Like the sun that shines equally on all planets, we must spread light and illuminate the country.”
