There is no reason to worry about fuel oil, said Power and Energy Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku. He stated that two more vessels are arriving on March 9.

The minister made these remarks to journalists at the Secretariat on Saturday, March 7.

He said mobile courts will operate from tomorrow to take action against anyone attempting to increase fuel prices through dishonest means. Public unrest is visible, which has no justification.

The minister informed that the country has adequate fuel reserves and there is no reason to panic. The government is also making efforts to procure oil from alternative sources.

Meanwhile, long queues of vehicles have been seen at most filling stations in the capital. Many customers are having to wait for hours to get fuel.

Pump officials said many people came to pumps on Thursday and Friday to fill their vehicle tanks with octane and petrol. This sudden surge in demand has created pressure on the supply system.

Earlier on Friday, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) set daily limits for fuel supply to vehicles from filling stations. For example, private motorcycles can take a maximum of 2 litres of petrol or octane per day, and private cars can take up to 10 litres of fuel per day.
