No need to worry over Hormuz Strait closure yet: Commerce Minister
Even if the Strait of Hormuz is closed due to the Iran war, there is no reason for Bangladesh to worry at this moment, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has commented.
Speaking to journalists after a courtesy meeting with Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma at the Secretariat on Monday, March 2, he said, "We have no reason to worry about fuel and essential commodities at this moment. We are monitoring the situation."
The commerce minister further said, "If the Strait of Hormuz is closed, ships have to come via the Cape of Good Hope in Africa, which increases freight costs and raises the price of all commodities. However, such a situation has not yet arisen in our country."
