No obstacle to DUCSU election as Appellate Division stays suspension order
Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election will proceed as scheduled after the Appellate Division stayed the High Court’s order suspending the polls.
The full bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed, issued the stay order on Wednesday, removing legal barriers to the election.
Earlier, the High Court had suspended the DUCSU election until October 30. Following an appeal by Dhaka University authorities, the suspension was temporarily stayed by Appellate Division Chamber Judge Farah Mahbub on Tuesday, allowing the appeal to be heard.
Advocate Mohammad Shishir Monir represented the university in court, while Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua appeared for the petitioners.
The stay order was issued shortly after a handwritten petition challenging the High Court’s ruling was heard by the chamber court. The court also instructed the university authorities to file a formal appeal against the High Court’s verdict.
With the stay now in effect, there is no longer any legal obstacle to holding the DUCSU election.
