No plan to increase fuel prices before Eid-ul-Fitr: Sheikh Rabiul Alam
There is no plan to increase fuel prices before Eid-ul-Fitr, said Road, Rail and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam. He further stated that any attempt to disrupt Eid journeys or increase transport fares using the potential fuel crisis as an excuse will not be tolerated.
The minister informed that the country's current fuel oil reserves are in a satisfactory and secure state. Necessary fuel supplies for buses and other transports will be ensured to facilitate hassle-free Eid journeys. He said, "There will be no problems in Eid journeys due to fuel oil shortages. There will also be no scope for collecting extra fares from passengers."
The minister stated that the government has undertaken various plans to modernise the road transport system and make it citizen-friendly. Metro rail services have already become crucial for city dwellers.
The minister further informed that initiatives have been taken to bring about significant changes in Dhaka's communication system by coordinating other public transport systems, including monorail, with the metro rail. The government has taken policy decisions for the rapid implementation of this plan, which will be executed in phases.
