Ensuring the safety and justice of every citizen, rather than the politics of revenge, is the government's highest priority, Chief Whip of the National Parliament Md Nurul Islam Moni has said.

He made the remarks at a consultation meeting organised jointly by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at the National Parliament building on Monday, July 6.

The meeting discussed the drafts of the 'Prevention and Remedy of Enforced Disappearance Act, 2026' and the 'National Human Rights Commission Act, 2026' with diplomatic missions and international development partners.

Presided over by Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman, the chief whip said that although the prime minister himself had been a victim of injustice for a long time, he does not believe in the politics of revenge. Instead, he is working to establish the rule of law and justice.

He said anyone who commits a crime will be brought under the law and face trial according to the nature and severity of the offence. The purpose of punishment is not revenge but to establish real rule of law in the country.

Nurul Islam Moni further said many people had lost loved ones in the past and been deprived of justice. The current government is working to end that deprivation and bring justice to people's doorsteps.

On legal reforms, he said the government welcomes constructive opinions from development partners to build a humane, just and democratic state system. Protecting citizens' rights and improving living standards through reforming necessary laws and policies is the government's goal.

The meeting was attended by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, representatives from the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, Denmark, the United Nations and various international development organisations, along with diplomatic missions and senior officials from concerned government departments.
