Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque has said there is no scope at this moment for seat-sharing with Islami Andolan, although the possibility of political understanding in the future cannot be ruled out.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the central office of Jamaat-e-Islami on Saturday afternoon, January 17. Earlier, he held a meeting with Jamaat’s Naib-e-Ameer Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher.

Mamunul Haque said the allocation of seats had followed a specific process from the beginning, and as Islami Andolan did not take part in that process, the remaining 47 seats would now be distributed through mutual understanding.

He said the strongest candidate in each constituency would be nominated as the sole candidate, and in agreed seats, all other candidates would withdraw their nomination papers in a coordinated manner.

Asked whether there was any conspiracy behind Islami Andolan’s decision to stay out of the arrangement, he said he did not believe so and described the failure to contest the election together as a collective shortcoming.

Regarding the possible impact of Islami Andolan’s withdrawal on the upcoming election, Mamunul Haque said the call for unity had not been abandoned and he did not expect any major impact on the election.
