No scope for whitening undisclosed money in FY2026-27 budget: Chief Whip
There will be no provision for legalising undisclosed or black money in the proposed national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni said on the eve of the budget presentation.
Speaking at a briefing at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Wednesday evening, the Chief Whip said the government has decided against offering any opportunity to whiten undisclosed wealth in the upcoming budget, which is scheduled to be placed before parliament on Thursday (June 11).
He said the proposed budget has been formulated with a focus on protecting low-income and vulnerable groups amid ongoing economic challenges.
The Chief Whip also announced that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to reaffirm the government's "zero tolerance" stance against corruption during the budget session, underscoring the administration's commitment to transparency and accountability.
Highlighting several key policy priorities, Moni said the government plans to expand its social protection initiatives by ensuring the nationwide distribution of Family Cards within the next fiscal year.
He further revealed that the government has set ambitious environmental and water management targets, including the excavation of more than 20,000 kilometres of canals and the plantation of 250 million trees over the next five years.
The remarks came ahead of the presentation of the FY2026-27 national budget, which is expected to outline the government's economic strategy, welfare programmes and development priorities under the new administration.
The proposed budget will be presented in parliament by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury later on Thursday and is expected to be closely watched by businesses, economists and development stakeholders for signals on fiscal policy, investment and social spending.
