National Parliament Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam has said that there is no chance to completely repeal the current constitution. However, necessary changes will be made to it after discussing with everyone.

He made these comments when Stuart James, Political Officer of the US Embassy in Dhaka, paid a courtesy call on the Chief Whip on Monday (April 6). The meeting was held at the Chief Whip's office at the Parliament Building.

During this time, a detailed discussion was held on Bangladesh's democratic journey, the implementation of the July Charter, the method of amending the constitution and various steps taken by the government to form an effective parliament.

The Chief Whip said, 'There is no alternative to amending the constitution to take the democratic journey on the right path. The previous fascist government made changes to the constitution in many places for personal interests. This constitution must be made people-friendly again for the interests of the people.'

He further said, 'There is no scope to completely repeal the existing constitution. Necessary changes should be made to the constitution after discussing with all parties. Even though we have a two-thirds majority, we want to make decisions based on everyone’s opinions. Our goal is to take everyone along, because for the current government, Bangladesh comes first.'

Expressing his strong conviction about the implementation of the July Charter, Nurul Islam said, 'We are in favor of implementing the July Charter. We want to implement all the issues we have agreed on. However, we are interested in discussing with everyone the implementation method.'
