No security risks ahead of February polls: Home Adviser

Home Affairs Adviser, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, has assured that there are no security risks ahead of the upcoming 13th general election and national referendum.

He made the remaks while speaking to reporters on Tuesday (January 27), after a law-and-order core committee meeting at the Home Ministry.

He said the interim government is committed to ensuring a free, fair, peaceful, and credible election. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to maintain maximum vigilance.

A dedicated election law-and-order coordination cell has been set up, with hotline numbers provided for reporting any election-related complaints.

For emergency communication, the cell can be reached at 02-47118700, 02-47118701, 02-47118702 and 02-47118703, as well as mobile numbers 01550-064226 (WhatsApp) and 01550-064227. He urged citizens to report any election-related law and order issues through these channels.

The adviser emphasised that security personnel must act with professionalism, neutrality, and humanity, ensuring voter safety and the uninterrupted participation of journalists and observers.

He also called on all political parties to cooperate in ensuring a peaceful election.

According to the Election Commission schedule, election campaigning began on 22 January and will continue until 7:30am on 10 February.
