No shortage of edible oil or fuel in market: Commerce Minister
There is no shortage of edible oil or fuel oil in the country's market, newly appointed Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has said. He made this remark during a briefing with journalists at the Secretariat on Monday, March 9.
Dismissing public concerns over edible oil, the minister said, "There is no need to buy excess edible oil out of panic. There is sufficient edible oil in the market."
Referring to adequate stocks of edible oil and fuel, the commerce minister told journalists, "Yesterday you heard the energy minister; at this moment, there is no shortage of fuel oil, no shortage of gas either. Meaning, in terms of LNG import, there is no gas shortage. There is no edible oil shortage either. So, do not associate the word 'shortage' with either edible oil or fuel oil. That would be misapplication."
Regarding price control and market monitoring, Khandaker Abdul Muktadir informed that concerned departments are active at the field level. He said, "The consumer rights department functions under the Ministry of Commerce. They are doing their work, and will continue to do so. In our districts, there are district administrations; they will also do their work. They will carry out their assigned duties for market monitoring."
