No victory processions, prayers to be held after Jumu'ah: Tarique Rahman
Tarique Rahman, chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) which has secured an absolute majority in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, has instructed party leaders and activists not to hold victory processions.
He said, "The best way to celebrate the people's verdict is to offer gratitude to Allah and maintain peace and order in the country."
Tarique Rahman made this statement in a press release issued late Thursday night.
He said, "This victory does not belong to any single party alone; it is the victory of democracy-loving people of the country. Therefore, we will exercise restraint instead of holding unnecessary rallies or processions."
He instructed that after Jumu'ah prayers on Friday, February 13, prayers and supplications be arranged at mosques across the country so that the nation may progress on the path of peace, stability and development.
According to party sources, messages have already been sent to organisational units from the centre to the grassroots. It has been stated that cooperation must be extended to law enforcement agencies without engaging in any provocative activities. Instead of potential victory processions, instructions have been given to observe limited programmes expressing gratitude and offering prayers.
