None of interim advisers leaving country: Press Secretary
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has confirmed that none of the interim government advisers are leaving the country and all will attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new government.
He made the remarks following the final meeting of the Advisory Council in capital's Tejgaon on Sunday (February 15).
The meeting was presided over by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.
"On the day of the event, they will travel in flag-bearing vehicles, though the flags will be removed on their return home," Shafiqul Alam said.
The Press Secretary described the recent national election as a “major success,” noting that it may have been the most orderly election in Bangladesh’s history. Law enforcement agencies—including the police, Border Guard Bangladesh, Coast Guard, Ansar, and the armed forces—carried out their duties professionally.
The meeting also highlighted that post-election violence was significantly lower than in previous polls. Four deaths were reported, but only one was directly linked to election-related violence.
A committee will be formed to investigate a weapons-related incident.
Newly elected MPs will take their oath at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 10:00am on February 17, followed by the swearing-in of the new Prime Minister and Cabinet members at the South Plaza at 4:00pm.
Foreign ministers from friendly countries have also been invited.
The interim government was formed under Muhammad Yunus on August 8, 2024, following the student-led uprising on August 5, 2024. Nearly one and a half years later, with the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the national census completed, the swearing-in of the new government will formally conclude the interim government’s tenure.
