Nor’wester storms, hight temperature likely in March
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a monthly forecast warning of one to two mild to moderate heatwaves this March, along with the potential for Nor’wester (Kalbaishakhi) storms.
Additionally, temperatures are expected to gradually increase both during the day and at night.
The forecast, released Sunday (March 1), indicates that rainfall will remain near normal for the month. No cyclones or low-pressure systems are expected to develop in the Bay of Bengal.
By the month’s end, western and southwestern regions may see one to two heatwaves, with daytime highs ranging from 36–39.9°C. Temperatures are likely to remain above average and trend upward.
The department also warns of 2–3 days of light to moderate storms with lightning and hail, and 1–2 days of more severe Nor’wester storms.
River levels are expected to remain normal across the country’s main waterways.
Authorities advise residents to remain alert to sudden storms, particularly in western and southwestern districts, and to take necessary precautions during heatwaves.
