Not a single complaint of voting obstacles received: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin has said he has asked hundreds of people whether they faced any obstacles in casting their votes, but none could say they were unable to vote.
"I asked many elderly women during the last election whether they faced any hindrance. Everyone told me, 'No, we didn't face any obstacles'," the CEC said at an event on Monday, March 16.
He added, "I haven't heard a single person say they couldn't vote. In the past, we have seen objections raised after a good election. I am happy that we all conducted the election together. I am happy because I have fulfilled the promise I made to the nation."
The CEC was speaking at a joint UNDP-EC event on strengthening women's participation in the electoral process at the Election Commission Building's basement auditorium, organised on the occasion of Women's Day.
The CEC said many women were involved in the voting process this time. In many cases, women's contributions are belittled due to propaganda. This propaganda must stop. As we progress towards more civilisation, this will gradually decrease. The more women come forward in building society, the more we will progress. We need to work more on women's development.
Other election commissioners and officials were present at the event.
