Earlier, on Friday evening, a clash broke out in the Kakrail area of the capital between leaders and activists of the Jatiya Party (JaPa) and Gana Odhikar Parishad. The incident occurred when a procession of Gono Odhikar Parishad was passing in front of the Jatiya Party office. Later, Nurul Haque Nur and many others were injured when law enforcement officers charged at them with batons.
Gono Odhikar Parishad claimed that it was the Jatiya Party activists who attacked their procession. However, JaPa alleged that the attack came from Gono Odhikar Parishad’s side.
Rashed Khan, General Secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad, said, "While preparing for a press conference at night to protest the attack, police and army personnel suddenly assaulted them. Over a hundred leaders and activists were injured, including Nurul Haque. Six of the seriously injured, including Nurul, were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital."
On the other hand, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a statement saying that during the clash, law enforcement repeatedly urged both sides to remain calm. However, some activists ignored the warnings and engaged in violence. There were also reports of stone-throwing, attempts to set structures on fire, and torch processions to escalate the situation.
According to ISPR, five members of the armed forces were injured in the incident.
