Odhikar demands immediate passage of enforced disappearance laws without amendments
The human rights organization ODHIKAR has stated that it does not want any changes to the Enforced Disappearance (Amendment) Ordinance 2025 and the National Human Rights Commission Ordinance 2025 issued by the interim government. The organization has urged that both ordinances be passed into law by Parliament immediately, without any amendments.
During a three-day workshop that began on Saturday in Savar, ODHIKAR presented seven demands to the government, accompanied by family members of victims of enforced disappearances.
The training workshop, focused on campaigning and lobbying against enforced disappearances and human rights violations, was organized by ODHIKAR with support from the Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances (AFAD).
According to a press release from the organization, family members of individuals who went missing during the July mass uprising under the government of deposed Sheikh Hasina participated in the workshop. Discussions included the nature of human rights violations, their impact, and strategies for awareness and prevention campaigns.
