One killed as bus-leguna collide in Demra
A man named Jahangir Alam, 55, has been killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a leguna in the Staff Quarters area of Demra in the capital. Another person is undergoing treatment at a hospital in critical condition.
The accident occurred around 9:00 pm on Monday, April 27. The deceased was the son of Nizam Uddin of Maikuli village in Rupganj upazila, Narayanganj.
According to witnesses and hospital sources, a leguna carrying passengers from Jatrabari was heading towards Rupganj when it collided head-on with a bus coming from the opposite direction in the Demra Staff Quarters area. At least 5-7 passengers of the leguna were injured.
Passersby rushed the injured to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Alam dead around 10:15 pm.
The other injured person has been admitted to the DMCH One-Stop Emergency Centre (OSEC). Doctors said his condition is extremely critical.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of Dhaka Medical Police Outpost, confirmed the accident and said Alam's body has been kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy. The concerned police station has been informed.
