A young man named Siam, 21, was killed after a hand bomb thrown by miscreants exploded in the Moghbazar area of the capital.

The incident took place on Wednesday evening beneath the Moghbazar flyover, in front of the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad central command.

Eyewitnesses said an explosive device was suddenly hurled from the flyover towards the road below, striking the victim on the head. The bomb exploded instantly, causing severe head injuries and heavy bleeding. Siam collapsed at the spot and died shortly afterwards.

Family members said Siam worked at a decoration firm and was in the area at the time of the incident. His identity could not be confirmed immediately, but relatives later arrived and identified the body.

Police rushed to the scene after receiving information and cordoned off the area, triggering panic among locals. The attackers fled immediately after throwing the bomb.

Deputy commissioner of police of DMP Ramna Division Masud Alam said initial findings suggest the bomb was thrown from the flyover. The motive behind the attack has not yet been confirmed.

He added that CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being collected and analysed to identify those involved. Further details will be disclosed after the investigation.
