One pir has more followers than entire Jamaat: Fazlur Rahman

Freedom fighter and MP Advocate Fazlur Rahman has said a single pir (spiritual leader) in the country has more followers than the entire Jamaat-e-Islami put together.

He made the remark in an interview with a media outlet on Saturday, July 4.

Fazlur Rahman said, "I believe in Kalema, namaz, hajj and zakat. Jamaat also believes in these. But the number of people who gathered at the funeral of the Fultali pir is more than the entire Jamaat combined."

Earlier, opposing the comparison between the Liberation War and the July uprising, Fazlur Rahman said in parliament, "I would say, saying this is an injustice. Comparing the Liberation War with August 5 is like comparing the Pacific Ocean with a pond."

Addressing the opposition, Fazlur Rahman said, "They had said that no Liberation War took place. That day, as a freedom fighter, I said, these children of Al-Badr, Fazlur Rahman is still alive. The Liberation War did happen, it is the truth. 30 lakh people gave their lives, that is also the truth. We fought against them that day."

Fazlur Rahman said, "The election was held through many conspiracies. What did they do in that election? What did those who are sitting on my right today do? What they did is unimaginable. When they started campaigning through that conspiracy, they would pass by getting two-thirds of the votes. I, Fazlur Rahman, said that if the Jamaat alliance gets two-thirds, I will eat poison. They can never win a political war. Their ancestors did not want Bangladesh. As long as the Royal Bengal Tiger lives, the freedom fighters will win, the Razakars will never be able to win."
