Online income tax return submission begins with 5 percent incentive for early filers
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has officially launched the online income tax return submission service for individual taxpayers for the 2026–2027 assessment year. Starting Wednesday (July 22), the digital system enables taxpayers to submit their returns, pay taxes, and instantly download income tax certificates from the comfort of their homes.
According to the NBR, the e-return platform, originally launched in 2021 to make tax services simpler, faster, and more transparent, has gained widespread popularity. A record of nearly 4.7 million individual taxpayers successfully filed their tax returns online during the 2025–2026 assessment year, reflecting growing public confidence in digital tax services.
Through a special order, online income tax return submission has been made mandatory for all regular individual taxpayers. However, paper submissions remain permitted for taxpayers aged 65 and above, physically incapacitated or individuals with special needs (subject to certification), non-resident Bangladeshis living abroad, legal representatives of deceased taxpayers, and foreign nationals working in Bangladesh. Furthermore, individuals facing registration issues with the e-return system may submit paper returns upon obtaining approval from the relevant Additional or Joint Commissioner of Taxes.
Taxpayers can complete tax payments through the NBR’s online platform using bank transfers, debit and credit cards, and mobile financial services such as bKash, Rocket, and Nagad. Taxpayers who provide accurate information will immediately receive proof of submission and an official income tax certificate.
To assist users, the NBR has activated a call center (09643717171), available during office hours on official working days, alongside other electronic support channels. Starting from the 2026–2027 assessment year, individual taxpayers who file their returns between July and September will receive a tax incentive equivalent to 5 percent of their net payable tax, capped at a maximum of BDT 25,000. Filings completed after September will not be eligible for this incentive, while returns submitted after December will incur additional tax surcharges. The National Board of Revenue has urged all taxpayers to complete their submissions within the designated timeframe.
