Advisor to BNP Chairperson Zainul Abedin Farroque has warned that those who opposed Bangladesh’s independence in 1971 continue to work against the country today. He emphasized that conspiracies against the upcoming national election will fail and affirmed that the election, scheduled for February, will take place as planned.

Speaking at a discussion on Friday titled “Shaheed Zia’s Contribution to Building a Self-Reliant Bangladesh,” held at the National Press Club’s VIP lounge on the occasion of BNP’s 47th founding anniversary, Farroque said the nation cannot expect any positive outcome from these anti-independence forces.

He recalled the public’s hopes following the people’s uprising led by students and political parties for a free, fair, and credible election that would restore voting rights, democracy, and freedom of speech. However, he lamented that various factions, whom he described as allies of fascism, are conspiring under different names to destabilize the country and sabotage the elections.

“The sooner the national election is held, the better it will be for the nation,” Farroque added.

In his speech, BNP Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon urged the people to raise their voices against the anti-independence elements. He called on these groups to apologize for the mistakes of 1971 and participate in the election without delay.

The event was chaired by BNP cultural wing President Humayun Kabir Bepari and moderated by Kalam Foyez. Bangladesh Newspaper Editors Association Chairman Mostafa Kamal Majumdar was also present and spoke.
