Opposition lacks parliamentary etiquette, needs political training: Transport Minister
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam has questioned the parliamentary knowledge and conduct of opposition members of parliament and advised them to learn politics.
Speaking during the discussion on the motion of thanks on the president's speech on the 24th day of the first session of the 13th National Parliament on Wednesday, April 29, the minister said many opposition members lack adequate understanding of even the basic aspects of parliamentary procedure.
He proposed that special workshops could be arranged to teach the opposition parliamentary etiquette and legislative conduct.
The minister further stated that a political party established long ago has never come to power through public votes, making their frustration understandable. Having to apologise to the people for their actions before the election is an example of political failure.
The minister claimed that the people of the country rejected the politics of confusion by giving BNP an absolute mandate in the last election. He said a large portion of the public has expressed support for implementing the July Charter and has also endorsed the structure proposed by BNP.
Recounting his own political life, the minister said the current parliament is not a charity but the result of a long struggle. He said he faced numerous cases and was imprisoned multiple times for taking part in the anti-fascism movement.
Addressing the opposition, he warned that democracy established through the sacrifice of thousands of people will not be allowed to be destroyed by any conspiracy. He urged them to play a constructive role and avoid politics that lacks public support.
