Opposition Leader Shafiqur, Deputy Leader Taher, Whip Nahid in Parliament
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has been elected as the opposition leader in the 13th National Parliament. In addition, Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has been elected as the opposition deputy leader and Nahid Islam has been elected as the opposition whip.
The Jamaat Amir gave this information after the 11-party alliance meeting on Tuesday, February 17 afternoon.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, "It is everyone's responsibility to respect the aspirations of July and the referendum verdict. That is why they have taken the oath in the Constitutional Reform Council."
He also commented that the BNP has ignored and disregarded the spirit of July and the decision of the referendum by not taking the oath. He called it regrettable that Tarique Rahman did not take the oath even after saying 'yes' in the referendum.
Opposition Whip Nahid Islam said, "BNP has broken its political promise by not taking the oath in the Constitutional Reform Council." He also claimed that the explanation given by BNP is not acceptable. Nahid Islam commented that this has created a legal and constitutional crisis.
