Opposition members to get Tk 20 crore allocation: Mirza Fakhrul

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has announced an allocation of around Tk 20 crore for the constituencies of opposition MPs.

In a statement given in Parliament under Rule 300, he said, “The Prime Minister has approved around Tk 20 crore from his discretionary fund for the seats of opposition members, excluding city corporations” on Monday.

The Local Government Minister further said that this allocation has been made for mosques, graveyards and Eidgahs.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram presided over the meeting.

After Mirza Fakhrul’s statement, the Speaker said that he himself spent a long time in Parliament and was also a member of the opposition party, but he never received any such allocation.

He said, “I also spent 40 years in this Parliament. I was also a member of the opposition party. I never received a single penny. I have been arrested and jailed five times. That's all I got. Nothing else has been achieved.'
