Oprotim murder trial will be fast-tracked like Ramisa case: Home Minister

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has remarked that the trial of Cumilla's Oprotim murder, like the Ramisa murder case, will also be completed quickly. He expressed hope that the judiciary would view this case with the same importance as the Ramisa murder case.

The Home Minister made these remarks at an urgent press conference at the Ministry of Home Affairs conference room in the Secretariat on Sunday, September 20.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the people of the entire country are shocked by the Cumilla incident. He was probably 13 years old. His body was recovered within 24 hours of his going missing. Within 12 hours of that, the suspected accused were arrested. They have also admitted that they are the criminals. The legal process for this is ongoing.

The minister further said those involved in the crime are juvenile offenders. Their ages are five to 10 years older than the murdered teenager. The mobile phone used in the murder has been recovered. Some evidence has also been found. The autopsy of the body has been completed and the burial has been done.

Explaining why such crimes are occurring, the Home Minister said drug and gambling involvement are behind this in many cases. He emphasised increasing motivational activities to solve this problem. Emphasis must be placed on sports and cultural activities at the primary and secondary levels of school so that they can grow up as good human beings.

Salahuddin Ahmed said the decay and moral decline of society began many years ago, and various signs of it are visible. He said all conscious citizens of society have a responsibility to tackle this situation.

He further said it must also be seen whether justice is being served when a crime is committed. He said after they assumed responsibility, they have been able to uncover every heinous crime in the shortest possible time. Those that are time-consuming are also being processed.
