Order to install rooftop solar power at all educational institutions

The Ministry of Education has directed the installation of rooftop solar power systems at suitable installations of all educational institutions in the country to achieve the government's fixed target for on-grid solar power generation.

The directive was given in an order sent from the ministry's Secondary and Higher Education Division to the concerned parties on September 23.

The order stated that, in light of the circular issued by the Cabinet Division to ensure greater use of solar power in government offices, the Power Division has set a target for on-grid solar power generation. To implement that target, all educational institutions must install rooftop solar power systems at their own suitable installations under the 'OpEx' model with private investment or from the institution's own funds.

The Ministry of Education's directive stated that important government offices such as Bangabhaban, the Cabinet Division, the Prime Minister's Office, the Planning Commission and the Finance Division have directives to use solar power for the majority of their needs. In continuation of that, other government offices and educational institutions must ensure maximum use of solar power in phases.
