Over 1.16 lakh arrested across Bangladesh since May

From May 1 to July 12 of this year, police have arrested a total of 1,16,725 individuals across the country in various operations, according to information provided by Police Headquarters on Monday.

During this period, 32,908 people were arrested in special drives, while a further 83,817 were arrested in connection with various criminal cases and regular police operations. In the same period, police recovered 243 firearms, 2,313 rounds of bullets and cartridges, 88 magazines, 43 locally made bombs, 2 kg of gunpowder, 503 local weapons, 18 weapon parts, 17 tools for making arms and bombs, and 10,300 chocolate bombs. The recovered firearms include 76 pistols, 30 shooter guns, 33 LGs, 18 revolvers, 50 guns, 15 pipe guns, 4 shotguns, 2 rifles, 2 sub-machine guns, 12 air guns, and 1 pen gun.

In anti-narcotics drives, police seized 76,40,276 yaba tablets, 8,284 puria (packets) of heroin, 3,186 bottles of phensedyl, 6,835 bottles of foreign liquor, 354 bottles of locally-made wine, and 5,336 puria (packets) of cannabis, along with various other drugs. A total of 14,157 cases have been filed in connection with these incidents, and 20,439 individuals have been arrested in these cases.
