Over 1.5 lakh police personnel to be trained for election security
Bangladesh Police is set to train over 1.5 lakh personnel in preparation for the upcoming national elections, scheduled for February 2026, as part of a nationwide effort to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful electoral process.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Quazi Zia Uddin, head of the Human Resources Development at Police Headquarters (PHQ), confirmed the initiative to the media on Friday (September 5), stating that comprehensive training modules have been developed to equip police personnel with the necessary skills to manage law and order during the election period.
“Under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police and the Additional IGP (HR), we have developed nine detailed training modules over the past three months, incorporating input from election experts and legal professionals,” DIG Uddin said.
The training will be conducted at 130 smaller and four major police training centres across the country. As part of the programme, 150 master trainers have already been trained at the PHQ in Dhaka from August 31 to September 2. In the coming weeks, 1,292 additional trainers will be prepared at 19 designated centres.
These trainers will go on to deliver structured training to over 1.5 lakh officers. The sessions will include real-time scenario-based exercises, mock drills, and simulations of potential challenges during election duty.
Supporting materials include a 15-minute documentary, a nine-minute training film, and a detailed booklet outlining duties, protocols, and standard operating procedures during the polls.
“We aim to prepare every officer for any situation that may arise, ensuring a secure environment for voters and polling officials alike,” the DIG added.
The training programme will be formally launched later this week at a ceremony at Rajarbagh Police Lines.
This large-scale preparation underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening electoral security and upholding democratic integrity during the upcoming parliamentary elections.
