Over 39,000 arrested in special drives, 100,000 in regular cases in 3 months

Police arrested 39,267 people in nationwide special operations conducted between May 1 and July 27, according to Police Headquarters.

During the same period, another 102,722 people were arrested in connection with regular cases and routine operations, bringing the total number of arrests to 141,989 over the three-month period.

The information was disclosed in a press release issued by Police Headquarters on Tuesday (July 28).

According to the statement, law enforcement agencies seized 325 firearms, 2,802 rounds of ammunition and cartridges, 103 magazines, 46 crude bombs (cocktails), around 2.25 kilograms of gunpowder, 638 locally made weapons, 18 firearm components, 17 weapon- and bomb-making devices, and 10,300 chocolate bombs during the special drives.

The recovered firearms included 101 pistols, 92 guns, 38 LGs (locally made long guns), 35 shooter guns, 19 revolvers, 15 pipe guns, 12 air guns, seven shotguns, three rifles, two submachine guns (SMGs), and one pen gun.

Police also recovered a large quantity of illegal drugs during the operations. The seized narcotics included 9.12 million yaba tablets, 9,080 packets of heroin, 4,095 bottles of phensedyl, 8,211 bottles of foreign liquor, 423 bottles of locally produced liquor, 8,552 packets of cannabis, and other illicit drugs.

Police Headquarters said 17,066 cases had been filed in connection with the drug seizures, while 24,821 people were arrested on drug-related charges.

The statement added that nationwide special drives will continue to curb crime, recover illegal firearms, combat narcotics, and maintain law and order across the country.
