Over 4 million taxpayers file e-returns this year: NBR
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has reported that over 4 million taxpayers have filed their income tax returns online (e-returns) so far in the current fiscal year 2025-26. The information was shared in a notification issued by the organisation on Wednesday, March 4.
The notification stated that filing income tax returns online has been made mandatory for all individual taxpayers except senior citizens aged 65 years or above, physically challenged or specially-abled taxpayers, Bangladeshi citizens residing abroad, legal heirs filing on behalf of deceased taxpayers, and foreign nationals working in Bangladesh. From August 4 last year until now, nearly 5 million taxpayers have registered on the e-return system, and over 4 million taxpayers have already filed their e-returns.
In the current fiscal year, 251,784 taxpayers filed e-returns in August, 301,302 in September, 454,076 in October, 1,040,472 in November, 978,198 in December, 655,363 in January, 294,987 in February, and 36,700 taxpayers filed e-returns in the first four days of March. In comparison, 1,399,655 taxpayers had filed e-returns within the stipulated time last year.
Among the e-returns filed this year, 2,866,618 are male taxpayers and 1,136,003 are female taxpayers. Among them, 1,610,750 male and 478,566 female taxpayers declared income from the salary sector. The number of male taxpayers declaring income from house rent is 187,754, and female taxpayers are 84,477.
Male taxpayers declaring income below the taxable limit number 1,435,630, while female taxpayers in this category number 765,197. The number of male taxpayers declaring income above Tk 500,000 but below Tk 1,000,000 is 534,954, and female taxpayers are 193,837. Male taxpayers declaring income above Tk 1,000,000 but below Tk 2,000,000 number 164,983, and female taxpayers are 47,532.
It is noteworthy that to assist taxpayers with any e-return related issues, the NBR has established a call centre at 09643 71 71 71 where taxpayers can receive immediate telephone solutions to their queries. Additionally, taxpayers can get solutions to any e-return related problems by submitting them in writing through the e-Tax service option at www.etaxnbr.gov.bd.
