More than 400,000 candidates have applied for re-scrutiny of their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examination results after failing to achieve their expected grades this year.

A total of 402,051 candidates have submitted requests covering 1,056,455 answer scripts, Dhaka Education Board secretary SM Kamal Uddin Haider said on Tuesday (August 18).

Of the scripts under review, 231,471 include practical examinations. Including both written and practical components, a total of 1,287,926 answer scripts will undergo re-scrutiny.

The date for publishing the re-scrutiny results has not yet been set, Haider said.

The SSC and equivalent results were published on August 10, with applications for re-scrutiny opening the following day. The application window closed on Monday.

This year’s average pass rate fell to 62.25 percent, the lowest in 19 years, while 690,608 candidates failed the examinations.

Applications were submitted through a website developed under the Education Ministry’s Integrated Education Information Management System (IEIMS) project. Candidates were charged Tk 150 for each paper they applied to have reviewed.

Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan had earlier said that the process would include not only re-scrutiny but also re-evaluation of answer scripts.
