Padma Bridge toll collection exceeds Tk 5 crore in 24 hours
Toll collection at the Padma Bridge surpassed Tk 5 crore in the last 24 hours, marking the second-highest daily revenue since the bridge opened. According to Padma Bridge Executive Engineer Abu Saad, Tk 5,03,24,450 was collected during this period, following Tuesday's collection of Tk 4,80,15,350.
The Eid journey on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway and Padma Bridge area has been comfortable this year. Instead of the usual traffic jams and long suffering, people from the southern and south-western regions are reaching their destinations without congestion.
A total of 45,602 vehicles crossed the bridge in the last 24 hours. At the Mawa end, 30,094 vehicles paid Tk 2,87,47,500 in tolls, while at the Jazira end, 15,580 vehicles paid Tk 2,15,76,950.
The highest-ever daily toll collection was recorded on June 6, 2025, when 52,487 vehicles crossed the bridge, generating Tk 5,43,28,100.
The Electronic Toll Collection system is operational at both ends of the bridge, allowing automatic toll collection without vehicles having to stop. The use of RFID cards has made travel faster and easier.
To ensure a smooth Eid journey, the capacity of the Mawa toll plaza has been increased through a 45-day special programme. Currently, 10 vehicles are crossing the bridge every three seconds after paying tolls. Ten lanes are operational for toll collection, including three separate lanes for motorcycles.
A special 'bus bay' has been constructed in front of the Padma Bridge North Police Station to ease congestion, allowing 10-15 buses to stop simultaneously, preventing chaos and long queues at the toll plaza entrance.
