Bangladesh’s two major bridges, the Padma and Jamuna, set new records in vehicle crossings and toll collections during the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, the Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) reported on Friday (March 20).
Between March 17 and 19, a total of 119,682 vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge, generating over Tk 13.21 crore in toll revenue—both figures exceeding last year’s record for the same period.
On March 18 alone, the Jamuna Bridge saw a single-day high of 51,384 vehicle crossings, with toll collection surpassing Tk 3.51 crore, breaking previous records.
Authorities noted that despite the heavy traffic, no major accidents or prolonged jams occurred, thanks to enhanced management and round-the-clock monitoring.
Measures included deploying skilled toll booth staff, opening additional lanes, strengthening security, operating surveillance cameras, and ensuring emergency services has been taken to ensure smooth journey.
BBA Executive Director and Bridge Division Secretary Mohammad Abdur Rouf credited the government’s guidance and coordinated efforts for making this year’s Eid travel comparatively safe and smooth.
