Pakistan President congratulates newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has congratulated Bangladesh's newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, expressing hope that Bangladesh will move towards greater progress and prosperity under his leadership.

Zardari conveyed the message in a congratulatory statement published on the Facebook page of the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka on Friday (August 21).

Highlighting the historical, religious and cultural ties between the two countries, the Pakistani president said Bangladesh and Pakistan share close relations rooted in their common history, faith and cultural bonds. He also welcomed what he described as recent positive developments in bilateral relations.

Zardari said there was scope to further expand cooperation between the two countries across areas of mutual interest. He expressed his willingness to work with President Mirza Fakhrul to strengthen bilateral ties and promote greater people-to-people contact and cooperation.

The Pakistani president also invited Mirza Fakhrul to visit Pakistan at a mutually convenient time, saying such a visit could help deepen bilateral relations and open up new avenues for cooperation.

Zardari wished Mirza Fakhrul success in his new role and extended his hopes for peace, progress and prosperity for the people of Bangladesh.
