Leaders of the Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS) Anti-Discrimination Movement have threatened to impose a "complete shutdown" across the country if their demands are not met within 24 hours.

In a statement on Thursday, four coordinators of the movement issued the ultimatum over two demands — first, removal of the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) chairman and second, reinstatement of 10 sacked PBS employees and withdrawal of the false cases against them.

Meanwhile, protesters in 10 of the 80 PBS service areas around the country went on strike on Thursday, leaving at least 60 lakh consumers in those areas without power.

The areas are Dhaka-1, Dhaka-2, Netrokona, Barishal-1, Cumilla-1, Cumilla-2, Cumilla-3, Cumilla-4, Magura, and Brahmanbaria.
