The interim government has taken essential measures to fully integrate the judicial processes of the higher and district courts into the e-judiciary system. As part of this initiative, paper-free judicial proceedings commenced in the Company Bench of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday (January 5).

Senior lawyer Md Ruhul Quddus Kajol told BSS, "The introduction of paperless judicial proceedings via an online platform, where all documents will be submitted digitally, marks the beginning of a new era."

The paperless judicial process was originally scheduled to begin on January 2, but it was postponed due to the suspension of court proceedings in honor of the late former Attorney General A.F. Hassan Ariff.

Chief Justice Dr. Syed Reffat Ahmed has outlined a plan to gradually roll out paperless judicial processes in other benches of the Supreme Court by 2025. Long-term objectives also include establishing a fully paperless judiciary in the district courts.

According to the roadmap announced by the Chief Justice, 2025 is being regarded as a "year of new beginnings" for the judiciary in Bangladesh. Several steps and initiatives have already been taken to put this roadmap into action.

Dr. Syed Reffat Ahmed has expressed hope that by 2025, the judiciary will function independently from the executive branch and play a more effective role in serving the people, fulfilling the aspirations that emerged during the July-August 2024 revolution.
