Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Acting Commissioner Mohammad Sarwar has directed to completely restrict any kind of parking and passenger movement at the entrances of Dhaka to reduce traffic congestion in the capital ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

He gave this instruction at a view-exchange meeting with the Transport Owners Association at the Gulistan Bus Terminal in the capital on Friday (March 13).

The DMP Commissioner said that special forces in plain clothes will be on duty round the clock at every bus terminal to ensure a smooth Eid-ul-Fitr journey. Strict action will be taken against those concerned if they are found to be collecting additional fares from passengers under the pretext of Eid bonus or any other excuse.

Member of Parliament Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, who was present at the meeting, said that serving passengers is a form of worship. Therefore, everyone involved in transport should stand by the passengers with sincerity.

He especially emphasized on ensuring the safety of female passengers. In addition, a call was made to stop long-distance truck traffic for a total of six days before and after Eid.
