Home Minister and BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that respecting the outcome of a public referendum requires first going to Parliament. “To honor the referendum’s verdict, one must first go to Parliament. After discussions there, decisions on constitutional amendments will follow. If new oaths are required, they will be taken according to the proper framework,” he added.

He made the remarks at a discussion, dua and iftar mahfil organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Lawyers Forum at the Supreme Court Lawyers’ Association auditorium on Tuesday.

On the implementation of the July Charter, the Home Minister stressed BNP’s full commitment. “Those who think they lost the elections through conspiracies should not dream of forming a government. We are hundred percent committed to the July Charter. Those now criticizing it had signed it after the elections,” he said.

Salahuddin Ahmed emphasized that the government is functioning in line with the Constitution and that BNP does not reject the July Charter. He added that the party will also implement its electoral manifesto alongside the accord’s commitments.
