Parliament forms Estimates Committee, Reza Kibria to lead

The 13th Jatiya Sangsad has formed the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Estimates, with Reza Kibria, a ruling-party lawmaker from Habiganj-1, appointed as its chairman.

The development brings the number of parliamentary committees whose formation has been completed so far in the current parliament to 46.

On Wednesday (September 9), Parliament also reconstituted the standing committees on the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Religious Affairs, with changes made to several of their members.

Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam Moni placed a motion in Parliament to form the new committee and reconstitute the two existing committees. The proposals were subsequently approved by lawmakers through a voice vote.

The Jatiya Sangsad has 39 standing committees related to different ministries, alongside 11 other subject-based committees, bringing the total number of parliamentary committees to 50.

Five committees were formed on Tuesday. With the formation of the Estimates Committee and the reconstitution of two existing committees on Wednesday, the process for 46 committees has now been completed.
