Parliament passes 10 more bills to convert interim govt ordinances into law
The Jatiya Sangsad has passed 10 more bills aimed at converting ordinances issued by the interim government into formal laws, as part of an ongoing legislative process to regularise executive orders.
The bills were passed on Friday (April 10) during the 13th day of the first session of the 13th Parliament.
The session was chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed (Bir Bikrom).
As no amendment proposals were moved on the floor, the House did not hold detailed discussions and passed the bills unanimously.
Out of 133 ordinances issued by the interim government, a special parliamentary committee recommended 98 for approval without changes and 15 with amendments. Of the remaining, four were recommended for repeal, while 16 were suggested to be reintroduced as strengthened draft bills.
Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher moved five development authority bills for passage, including the Narayanganj Development Authority Bill 2026, Barishal Development Authority Bill 2026, Mymensingh Development Authority Bill 2026, Cumilla Development Authority Bill 2026, and Rangpur Development Authority Bill 2026. All were passed unanimously.
Culture Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury moved the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (Amendment) Bill 2026, which was also passed without opposition.
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintu placed the Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation Bill 2026, which was approved unanimously.
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury introduced three financial bills—the Deposit Protection Bill 2026, the Excises and Salt Bill 2026, and the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty (Amendment) Bill 2026—all of which were passed by consensus.
The government said the legislative drive is part of efforts to streamline governance and formalize key policy decisions taken under the interim administration.
