Parliament passes five ordinance bills of Interim Government
The Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday (April 8) passed five ordinance bills issued by the interim government, including the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Act, 2026.
The bills were approved by voice vote on the 11th day of the first session of the 13th Parliament.
The bills were passed directly without being sent to a parliamentary committee, as they were placed by the respective ministers and state ministers.
The approved legislations include the Government Audit Act, 2026; Protection and Conservation of Fish (Amendment) Act, 2026; Sheikh Hasina Rural Development Academy, Jamalpur (Amendment) Act, 2026; Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Amendment) Act, 2026; and the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Act, 2026.
Notably, the amendment to the rural development academy law proposes removing Sheikh Hasina’s name from the institution.
Before the passage of the Anti-Terrorism amendment bill, Opposition Leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman sought time for discussion, saying he had received the bill only minutes earlier and could not review it in detail.
However, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed ruled that there was no scope for objection at that stage, noting that proposals for discussion should have been submitted earlier.
The Home Minister subsequently moved the bill, which was passed by voice vote.
