Parliament prioritises four areas for legislative research
The parliament has prioritised four key areas for research as it moves to implement the revised National Parliament Research Policy 2026.
The decision was taken at the first meeting of the research committee, chaired by its president, Sayeed Al Noman, at the Parliament Secretariat on Tuesday (August 18).
The committee discussed how parliamentary research should be conducted, how research topics should be selected and how proposals would be invited from qualified individuals and institutions.
It recommended publishing notices in two national dailies—one in Bangla and one in English—to invite research proposals under the revised policy.
The four priority areas are: strengthening the parliamentary committee system through international experience and reform; the need for and framework of implementing and reviewing laws after enactment; improving Parliament’s engagement with citizens; and assessing the effectiveness of implementing Public Accounts Committee recommendations.
The committee also stressed that research should focus on issues relevant to lawmaking, parliamentary affairs and significant contemporary national and international developments.
Officials said the research programme should be used more effectively to improve the quality of legislation and parliamentary proceedings.
