Water Resources Minister and BNP Joint Secretary General Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Annie stated that the “yes” outcome of the parliamentary election is automatically effective.

He made the remarks after paying tribute to language martyrs in Lakshmipur on Saturday (February 21).

Speaking to reporters, he said, “The parliamentary elections have concluded, and MPs have taken their oaths. A ‘yes-no’ vote was held, with ‘yes’ prevailing in the referendum. Therefore, any bill raised in Parliament will automatically reflect the ‘yes’ outcome; no separate oath is required.”

He added that legal experts have provided guidance regarding constituencies where voting did not occur or where a note of dissent was issued, and appropriate measures will be taken.

Addressing incidents of mob activity, Annie said, “Those engaging in mobs should refrain, as such actions create disorder and hinder national development. Everyone must act responsibly to support the government and the country; individuals acting outside this responsibility will be held accountable.”

He emphasised that while differing opinions are natural, opposition should not obstruct national development, and all must work sincerely for the country.

Present at the event were district BNP Secretary Shahabuddin Sabu, Joint Convener Hasibur Rahman, Sadar (East) Upazila BNP President Main Uddin Chowdhury Riaz, General Secretary Shah Md. Emran, Lakshmipur Municipal BNP President Rezaul Karim Liton, General Secretary Nizam Uddin, and leaders and activists from various BNP wings.
