Passenger dies on Biman flight, body to be repatriated from Oman

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Jeddah to Chattogram made an emergency landing at Muscat International Airport in Oman after a female passenger fell seriously ill mid-air. Local doctors later declared her dead after examination.

Shah Amanat International Airport Public Relations Officer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil confirmed the information through a press release on Wednesday (August 26).

The notification stated that Biman flight BG-136 was en route from Jeddah to Chattogram when a passenger, Chhanowara Begum (55), fell critically ill mid-air. Considering the overall situation, the flight was forced to make an emergency landing at the nearest Muscat airport in Oman.

Immediately after landing, airport doctors were called in and they declared her dead after examination.

However, the exact cause of her sudden illness or the reason behind her death could not be immediately ascertained.

Shah Amanat Airport authorities said the process has been initiated to repatriate the body of the deceased to her family with the assistance of the Bangladesh Embassy in Oman.

Meanwhile, after completing all formalities at Muscat airport following the emergency landing, flight BG-136 resumed its journey to its scheduled destination, Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram.
