A passenger was detained by intelligence agencies at the domestic terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal (R.A.) International Airport with 720 grams (approximately 61 bhori) of gold.

He was detained around 12pm on Thursday (July 23) and handed over to the Airport Police Station. Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamrul Islam Talukder confirmed the matter.

According to sources, based on a tip-off, intelligence officials learned that an attempt would be made to smuggle gold into Dhaka via Chattogram on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dubai. As per the plan, a passenger on a domestic route was to collect the gold from an incoming passenger from Dubai and then exit through the domestic terminal.

Intelligence agencies intensified surveillance based on this information and identified a passenger named Mohammad Alauddin, from whom 720 grams of powdered gold, cleverly concealed, was recovered.

Legal action has been taken against the detained passenger in connection with the incident.
