Train services across the country are suspended due to the strike by Bangladesh Railway running staff.

In this context, the government has launched special BRTC bus service as an alternative to rail to transport stranded railway passengers, said Public Relations Officer of the Railways Ministry Rezaul Karim Siddiqui on Tuesday (January 28) morning.

He said, “Passengers going to Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Khulna, Cumilla, Bogura and Mymensingh from Dhaka Railway Station and Airport Railway Station can travel through BRTC bus service with their purchased rail tickets. Apart from this, they can also come to Dhaka from these places through this service.”

He said this BRTC bus service will remain operational until further instructions are given.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, adviser to the Railways Ministry, will inspect the capital's Kamalapur Railway Station shortly to monitor the ongoing situation.

As per the previous announcement, the railway running staff are observing a strike across the country, stopping all kinds of train services. Hence, there is silence at the busy ticket counters. The ticket counters for intercity trains have also not opened.

The Railway Running Staff and Workers Union held a press conference in Chattogram on January 22 and gave an ultimatum to fulfil their demands by January 27. If the demands are not met, they announced that they will stop rail services from January 28.
